Even though Saluda scored an imposing 66 points on Wednesday, Newberry still came out on top. Newberry walked away with a 78-66 victory over Saluda.
Meanwhile, Abbeville beat Mid-Carolina 63-51 on Friday. Given Abbeville's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Mid-Carolina is ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Abbeville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Justin Rollinson, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Damarcus Leach, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Newberry is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. As for Abbeville, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Newberry came up short against Abbeville when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 53-47. Can Newberry avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
