Barron is 8-1 against Northwestern since September of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Golden Bears will challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Barron made easy work of Cumberland and carried off a 3-0 win. The Golden Bears haven't had any issues with the Beavers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Barron was: they took every set by at least 12 points. The final score came out to 25-7, 25-6, 25-13.
Barron can attribute much of their success to Abby Miller, who had nine digs and two aces, and Xendra Jilek, who had nine digs and two aces. That's the most digs Jilek has posted since back in August. Isabell Donica also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Meanwhile, Northwestern hadn't done well against Unity recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Tigers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles, sneaking past 3-2.
Northwestern took Unity into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 13-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-14, 17-15.
Northwestern's win came from a few key players Barron will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Genna Kreuser, who had 18 digs and three aces. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 10.5 digs per game. Lauren Zifko was another key player, getting 12 digs and one assist.
Barron's record now sits at 20-3. As for Northwestern, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 9-4.
Barron beat Northwestern 3-1 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bears since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
