The Mineral County Serpents's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell just short of Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage by a score of 37-34. Mineral County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Monday.
Jayona Kimmins and Caitlynn Sanchez certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Kimmins almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 rebounds, while Sanchez scored 12 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sanchez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aleecia Majano, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
S. Jamice was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 21 points. It was the first time this season that she scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of W. CiCi, who scored eight points.
Mineral County has been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage, their victory ended a eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-15.
Mineral County will take on Sage Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Mineral County is ranked 98th, while Sage Ridge is ranked 74th). Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
