Poquoson has gone 8-2 against Lafayette recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Islanders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Poquoson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Poquoson barely beat York the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Islanders put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 12-1 victory on Wednesday. The Islanders have beaten the Falcons the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Falcons has come to flipping the script.
Natalie Klochak tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Alyssa Laney was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Tinley Goodson, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs.
Poquoson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Lafayette was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 38th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against York, falling 19-0.
Lafayette saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlin Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Poquoson's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Lafayette, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-17.
Lafayette's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Poquoson has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Lafayette, though, as they've been averaging 12.4 hits. Given Poquoson's sizable advantage in that area, the Rams will need to find a way to close that gap.
Poquoson took their victory against Lafayette in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 22-0 score. Will the Islanders repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
