The Hedgesville Eagles will challenge the Musselman Applemen at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hedgesville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Hedgesville was able to grind out a solid victory over Loudoun County, taking the game 8-3.
Landon Pence made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Mason McGill looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Mason Elliott was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Austin Manor, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Musselman hadn't done well against Loudoun Valley recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Applemen won by a run and slipped past the Vikings 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Applemen have posted since April 23, 2024.
Musselman's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Izaac Gilbert, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Hedgesville's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Musselman, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8.
Hedgesville was able to grind out a solid win over Musselman in their previous meeting back in March, winning 7-2. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Applemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
