The Hartford Orioles will face off against the Homestead Highlanders at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Hartford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Hartford lost a heartbreaker the last time they played West Bend West, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. The Orioles blew past the Spartans 7-1 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Orioles have posted against the Spartans since May 24, 2021.
Carter Kutz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaiden Romens, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Landgraf, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Homestead came up short against Germantown on Saturday and fell 5-2.
Keaton Lewis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Hartford pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Homestead, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.
Hartford's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Orioles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Homestead, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hartford continue to outrun the ball?
Hartford took their win against Homestead when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Orioles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
