The Yulee Hornets will face off against the Bishop Snyder Cardinals at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Yulee will bounce into Monday's game after beating Fernandina Beach, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Yulee strolled past Fernandina Beach with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 46-32.
Rheyna Hilton was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 12 boards. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Yulee's points. Kelsi Cornegay was another key player, putting up six points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Yulee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Bishop Snyder entered their tilt with Harvest Community on Thursday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Warriors 53-17. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Warriors are ranked 350th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop Snyder's win came from a few key players Yulee will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Saige Grace, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and eight blocks. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Gaines, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.
Bishop Snyder's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.9 points per game. As for Yulee, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Yulee has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 24.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Bishop Snyder struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
