The Southwest Florida Christian King are taking a road trip to square off against the Bishop Verot Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southwest Florida Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Southwest Florida Christian fell victim to Mariner and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Tritons by a score of 1-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the King's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bishop Verot, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over Charlotte on Tuesday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Fightin' Tarpons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Crimson Lawrence made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on McKenna Robbins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Willa Pagnutti was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Bishop Verot hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Charlotte struck out nine times.
Bishop Verot pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Southwest Florida Christian, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southwest Florida Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bishop Verot struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Southwest Florida Christian suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Bishop Verot in their previous meeting back in March. Can the King's avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
