Kern Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Daniel Hinkey, Blake Embree, and Aiden Madden picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Bishop Union on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Desert out of the water with a 56-6 final score. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 37 points or more this season.
Bishop Union's win came from a few key players Kern Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaxon White, who rushed for 118 yards and one score on only five carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Devaun Mitchell, who rushed for 60 yards and one TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bishop Union was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 255 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Bishop Union, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Elliott Douda, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from Richie Talavera.
Kern Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Bishop Union, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Kern Valley has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 158.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bishop Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging 154 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Kern Valley couldn't quite get it done against Bishop Union in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 as they fell 27-14. Thankfully for the Broncs, Elijah Reynolds (who rushed for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
