The North Georgia HomeSchool Tribe will take on the Scholars Guild Academy Spartans at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, North Georgia HomeSchool and Heritage Preparatory finished up their match with a 10-10 draw. Even though they lost, the Tribe's still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Meanwhile, Scholars Guild Academy entered their tilt with Skipstone Academy on Tuesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Warriors. Considering the Spartans have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Justin Whitfield made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Whitfield was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).
In other batting news, Henry Rumble was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Scholars Guild Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jacob Chupp, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Scholars Guild Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Scholars Guild Academy's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. With that draw, North Georgia HomeSchool's record moves to 5-14-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. North Georgia HomeSchool has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Scholars Guild Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
