Hesperia hasn't had much luck against Sultana recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Scorpions will head out on the road to square off against the Sultans at 3:15 p.m. Hesperia has given up an average of 12.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hesperia is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They lost 22-3 to Apple Valley.
Angie Villalobos made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sultana). Everything went their way against Serrano on Tuesday as they made off with a 15-5 victory. Considering the Sultans have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Savannah Vanderpool made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in runs (two).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Rodriguez, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Huizar, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Sultana hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive games.
Sultana's record is now 12-7. As for Hesperia, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11-1.
Hesperia might still be hurting after the 17-1 loss they got from Sultana in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Scorpions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
