The Lakeland Chiefs will head out on the road to face off against the Old Forge Blue Devils at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Lakeland's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests.
Even though Lakeland has not done well against Holy Cross recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Lakeland walked away with a 60-52 win over Holy Cross. The victory was all the more spectacular given Lakeland's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 483rd, while Holy Cross is ranked 54th).
Lakeland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Hunt led the charge by scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that Hunt scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of David Naniewicz, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Old Forge came up short against Carbondale Area on Monday and fell 50-40. Old Forge has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lakeland's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Old Forge, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
Lakeland couldn't quite finish off Old Forge in their previous meeting back in January and fell 59-56. Can Lakeland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
