After a string of seven wins, the Hopewell Blue Devils's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Thomas Dale by a score of 60-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Hopewell still got an impressive performance from Shawn Long, who scored 28 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Nick Byrd, II was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Hopewell's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3. As for Thomas Dale, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4.
Hopewell will face off against Fleming at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Thomas Dale, they will be playing at home against Meadowbrook at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meadowbrook will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Thomas Dale is ranked 111th).
