Softball Recap: Northern Durham Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wake Forest, Northern Durham was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans 16-1. The high-scoring effort was just what the Knights needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Brynley Standifer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, AnnaClaire Spell and Roxy Nelson did most of the damage at the plate: Spell scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Nelson went 2-for-4 with six RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most runs Spell has posted since back in May of 2024. Kennedy Campbell also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Northern Durham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern School of Energy and Sustainability only managed five hits.

Northern Durham's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Northern Durham has already played their next contest, a 22-13 defeat against East Chapel Hill on the 26th. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 17-7 loss against Durham Academy on the 26th.
