Woodlawn is a perfect 6-0 against McGehee since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Woodlawn Bears will look to defend their home field against the McGehee Owls at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Woodlawn is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Stuttgart on Tuesday as Woodlawn made off with an 11-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Ricebirds: they've now won four in a row.
Woodlawn got a great performance from Tyler French as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Logan Clark, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season. Hollis Holderfield was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Woodlawn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, McGehee got themselves on the board against Fordyce on Tuesday, but Fordyce never followed suit. They blew past the Redbugs 11-0.
The result came thanks to Drake Brown's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks.
On the hitting side, Kamryn Jefferson was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Jefferson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Kyler Bell, who scored two runs and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-3.
McGehee now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Woodlawn, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Woodlawn has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like McGehee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Woodlawn's way against McGehee in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Woodlawn made off with an 11-1 win. Will Woodlawn repeat their success, or does McGehee have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
