Softball Recap: Plainwell Gets the Win

While Plainwell's win against Galesburg-Augusta wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Rams 11-10 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won three in a row.

Sophia Barth made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Taya Miller and Sophie Munch did most of the damage at the plate: Miller went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Munch went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That triple was Miller's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Heidi Ragainis, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Plainwell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive contests.

Plainwell's win bumped their record up to 10-24. As for Galesburg-Augusta, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plainwell will take on Burr Oak at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Galesburg-Augusta, they will face off against Lawton at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
