Independence is 2-8 against Bakersfield Christian since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Independence Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Bakersfield Christian Eagles at 5:45 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Independence came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Stockdale 63-28 on the road. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Independence had established a 23 point advantage.
Kaylynn Bolden was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 19 times she's played. Ka'Rayah Robertson was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bakersfield Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 78-16 victory over Highland. Bakersfield Christian has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 23 points or more this season.
Independence pushed their record up to 12-11 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Bakersfield Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Independence, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-40 loss to Bakersfield Christian in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can Independence avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
