The Catholic of Pointe Coupee Hornets''s game last Thursday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They strolled past St. Edmund with points to spare, taking the game 36-20. Catholic of Pointe Coupee pushed the score to 36-14 by the end of the third, a deficit St. Edmund cut but never quite recovered from.
Cooper Laviolette was a one-man wrecking crew for Catholic of Pointe Coupee as he rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per carry. Laviolette was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. Another player making a difference was Brooks Capps, who rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown.
Despite the loss, St. Edmund saw an underclassman step up: Ke'von Johnson rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown.
Catholic of Pointe Coupee has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for St. Edmund, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Catholic of Pointe Coupee will take on North Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Central comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for St. Edmund, they will be playing at home against Westminster Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
