The Overland Trailblazers pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 63-62 to Eaglecrest. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Overland in their matchups with Eaglecrest: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Overland lost, one person who can't be blamed is Siraaj Ali. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with seven assists and three steals. Ali hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronald Henry, who scored eight points.
Eaglecrest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ladavian King, who scored 18 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Kris Coleman, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Overland's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Eaglecrest, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Overland will be playing in front of their home fans against Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cherry Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Overland likes a good challenge. As for Eaglecrest, they will head out on the road to face off against Cherokee Trail at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Cherokee Trail focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday.
