The Clinton Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Big Foot Chiefs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Clinton's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Big Foot's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Clinton lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Edgerton, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's game. The Cougars put the hurt on the Crimson Tide with a sharp 17-0 win on Tuesday. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.
Ashley Theisen and Andie Bell made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Theisen pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bell pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Theisen went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Bell went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most runs Theisen has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Maycee Morris was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Hinz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Clinton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Big Foot was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Turner. Surprisingly, this marked the Chiefs' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Holly Kynell was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Kynell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Kynell wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lily Wolf, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Clinton's record now sits at 10-5. As for Big Foot, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.
Big Foot's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Clinton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Big Foot, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Clinton keep running through batters, or will the Chiefs buck the trend?
Clinton skirted past Big Foot 5-3 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
