The Harlan Hawks waltzed into their game on Saturday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They took down Taft 42-26. Given Harlan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Taft is ranked 719th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Harlan was led to victory by Ruhama Salyers and Alexa Romero. Salyers scored five points along with six steals, while Romero scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Romero hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaliyah Graham, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Harlan's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-8. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Taft, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-20.
Coincidentally, Harlan and Taft will both be playing Brennan the next time they take the court. Harlan will head out to face Brennan at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Taft will host them at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
