The Indian Creek Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Loyola Blakefield Dons at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Indian Creek has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 30.
Indian Creek pushed their score all the way to 58 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gerstell Academy. While losing is never fun, Indian Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 190th, while the are ranked 35th).
Despite the defeat, Indian Creek saw an underclassman step up: Kyle Harvin scored 19 points. Harvin continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aiden Evans, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Loyola Blakefield pushed their score all the way to 66 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Our Lady of Mount Carmel by a score of 69-66. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Loyola Blakefield has suffered since December 6, 2023.
The losing side was boosted by J'lin Brown, who scored 24 points. Marlon Williams was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Indian Creek dropped their record down to 7-12 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Loyola Blakefield, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-10 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Indian Creek hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.3 points per game. However, it's not like Loyola Blakefield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 67.7 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Indian Creek came up short against the Dons in their previous matchup back in December of 2016, falling 50-40. Can Indian Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
