Baseball Recap: South El Monte Wins Going Away Against Mountain View

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against La Canada, South El Monte was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They put the hurt on the Mountain View Vikings with a sharp 13-1 win. The Eagles have beaten the Vikings the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Vikings has come to flipping the script.

Ryan Leon and Matthew Medina made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Leon tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Medina pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Leon earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base, while Medina went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double. That double was Medina's first of the season.

In other batting news, South El Monte let Armando Huizar and Xavier Cordova run wild. Huizar went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases and three runs, while Cordova went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Huizar has posted since back in March. Anthony Romero was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

South El Monte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain View only posted a batting average of .133.

South El Monte's record now sits at 17-6. As for Mountain View, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. South El Monte will face off against rival Marshall at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (South El Monte 2.2, Marshall 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Mountain View is set to take on their familiar foe Gabrielino at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
