Baseball Recap: Battle Creek Takes a Loss

Battle Creek fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Whitney Young on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Dolphins by a score of 5-3. The Grizzlies just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Battle Creek got a good showing from Mack Borum, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Borum has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Battle Creek saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colten Barba, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Levi Elam also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Battle Creek now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Whitney Young, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4.

Coincidentally, Battle Creek and Whitney Young will both be playing Grace Christian Academy the next time they take the field. The Dolphins will host the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Grizzlies will head out to face them at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
