Softball Recap: Elkhorn South Comes Up Short

Elkhorn South dropped down to 3-2 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Gretna Dragons by a score of 2-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Storm were not able to get on the board.

As for Gretna, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

For Gretna's part, Taelyn Rupiper tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Rupiper has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emerson Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.

Coming up, Elkhorn South will head out to take on Papillion-LaVista at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Storm's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Monarchs have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Gretna, they will be playing at home against Bennington at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Dragons 1.8, the Badgers 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
