It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Mercer Island Islanders can now relate to. They fell 59-47 to the Crusaders on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mercer Island came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Eastside Catholic is ranked 169th).
Mercer Island's loss came despite strong showings from Caitlin Monahan and Anna Mock. Monahan scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Mock scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Mock pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Grace marsh, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Mercer Island's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9. As for Eastside Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-13.
Mercer Island does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Eastside Catholic also has no future games currently scheduled.
