Jenny Shank made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ferni Pulido, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Brizeyda Salinas was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Weslaco East, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Edcouch-Elsa on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Lopez, Weslaco East also got a great game from a two-way player: Aubrey Zuniga. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Zuniga was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Sydni Morales was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Angelica Herrera, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Weslaco East lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edcouch-Elsa didn't launched any home runs.
Weslaco East pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lopez, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
Lopez couldn't quite get it done against Weslaco East in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 6-1. Will the Lobos have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
