4A Region I District 8 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Everman's Zack Cowan recorded the longest rushing play in 4A Region I District 8 this season in his game against Centennial last week. Cowan ran for 98 yards on the play and finished with 111 on the day as his team topped the Spartans.
Cleburne moved up to 279 from 335 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Yellowjackets climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Crowley 33-19.
Matt Marner and Larry Cheeks gave the Eagles a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Marner threw for 74 yards and one touchdown, while Cheeks ran for 196 yards. Marner also contributed to the rushing game with 96 yards on the ground.
Myron Hills was the best wideout in the league this week as Waco topped Joshua. Hills racked up two receptions for 51 yards. Trayvond Brooks helped Waco's passing attack out by catching two balls for 44 yards.
Derrion Alexander provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Everman defeated Centennial. He completed one pass for 24 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 184 yards. Alexander's favorite target this week was Chris Stafford, who caught one pass for 24 yards.
The Lions' Traynham Moore and Darron Jefferson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Region I District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Moore has thrown for 1243 yards this season, while Jefferson has 15 catches for 378 yards. Cheeks from Crowley leads the league in rushing with 1443 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Chris James' team takes on University. The Eagles' offense has recorded 308 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Trojans have permitted only 163 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Crowley takes on University. As it stands, the Eagles are in first, while Matt Carroll's team is in third.
Crowley extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cleburne, 33-19. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
