The Emery Spartans pushed their score all the way to 63 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Carbon 68-63. Emery has struggled against Carbon recently, as their contest on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kenadie Maughan, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for her. Katelyn Nielson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Carbon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amiah Timothy led the charge by scoring 23 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. The matchup was Timothy's 15th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jacie Jensen, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Emery's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Carbon, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Emery will take on North Sanpete at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (North Sanpete is ranked 72nd, while Emery is ranked 50th). As for Carbon, they will head out on the road to face off against Canyon View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
