Video: Sierra Canyon vs. Grace Brethren highlights See the two Southern California small schools powers tangle with each other.
The Nebraska Class C1 playoffs are heating up and three teams from the Cornhusker State are in the MaxPreps Small Schools National Football Rankings, including Wahoo all the way up to No. 2.
Wahoo is No. 2 in the national rankings, moving up from No. 8 last week, but it is only No. 2 in the Class C1 playoffs. The other side of the bracket features our Game of the Week with No. 9 Pierce and No. 22 Adams Central.
Most impressive win: Shiner 63, Brazos 6. Shiner racked up 492 yards and never punted in posting 63 points by the end of the third quarter. The defense also limited Brazos to 73 total yards.
Game of the Week: Grace Brethren 42, Westlake (Westlake Village) 38. The two-teams played a 49-35 game earlier in the season with Grace Brethren winning. This time, Grace Brethren grabbed an 11-point lead four different times in the game before holding off a late rally by Westlake and collecting the win.
Game to watch: Pierce vs. Adams Central. New No. 9 Pierce takes on No. 22 Adams Central in the Class C1 semifinals. Adams Central is the top seed and is 11-0 for the first time in school history. Pierce, the No. 4 seed, is 11-0 for the first time since winning the state championship in 2007.
Best individual performance: Josh Henderson, Grace Brethren. In a playoff win over Westlake, Henderson had 211 yards and five touchdowns.
Dropped Out: No. 11 Dublin (Ga.), No. 12 Lutheran North (St. Louis), No. 17 Penns Grove (Carneys Point, N.J.), No. 18 Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.).
The Small Schools Top 25 is open to schools that generally play in enrollment divisions with less than 1,000 students. Some California schools with under 1,000 students that play in competition-based playoff divisions that mostly include large enrollment schools (such as Sierra Canyon and Grace Brethren) are also included. Teams are ranked based on their MaxPreps computer ranking, which is listed along with their current record.
