The 64-game run of success is the longest active streak in the country, moving the Flyers into the top 20 on the all-time consecutive wins list. Marion Local (16-0) outscored opponents 709-49 on the season, pitching nine shutouts while holding 15 of 16 teams to nine points or less.
On Friday, Marion Local jumped out to a 33-0 lead in the first quarter and scored 27 more in the second to take a 60-0 lead into the locker room. The margin of victory is the most in an Ohio state final in any division.
Four Flyers ran for touchdowns as
Parker Hess led the way with four scores on five carries and 36 yards while
Ethan Heitkamp added two scores on 57 yards rushing. Quarterback
Justin Knouff had 60 yards rushing and was 4 of 6 passing for 94 yards and a TD pass to
Victor Hoelscher.
The offense ran just 33 plays and racked up 345 yards of total offense with 248 coming on the ground.
While the Marion Local offense was humming, the defense was smothering. The Flyers allowed 75 yards of total offense and only three yards rushing. Hillsdale (14-2) controlled the time of possession battle
33:14 to 14:46 but turned the ball over five times, including four first-half interceptions. Daniel Everman had two interceptions for the Flyers.
Marion Local has not lost since Nov. 6, 2020 when it fell 24-17 to New Bremen in the final game of the season.
The Marion Local seniors end their careers without a loss. They posted 34 shutouts and outscored opponents 2,098-271 during the 64-game win streak while only allowing 30 points or more just once.
