Video: Aledo freshman running back goes Beast ModeJase McClellan powers school's seventh state title since 1998.Aledo captured its seventh Texas state championship Friday night with a 24-16 win over
Calallen (Corpus Christi) in the Class 5A Division II title game at AT&T Stadium.
The Bearcats (16-0) have now won six state crowns in the last eight years in addition to the school's first back in 1998.
Give Calallen credit for holding Aledo under 40.
Hoping to get the job done for longtime head coach Phil Danaher (the state's career leader in wins), the upset-minded Wildcats (14-2) were able to slow down high-powered Aledo but it wasn't enough.
The perennial powerhouse scored 38 or more points in every game this season and averaged over 55 coming into Friday's championship game.
Freshman running back
Jase McClellan carried 13 times for 101 yards and a touchdown for Aledo. His 59-yard scoring run in the third quarter gave the Bearcats a comfortable 17-3 cushion.
The two teams combined to attempt just 17 passes.
