Video: 722 yards in one game
See Meadville's Journey Brown have a huge night in his team's 107-90 win.Perhaps the best way to describe the 107-90 win by
Meadville (Pa.) over
DuBois (Pa.) on Friday in Pennsylvania is that it resembled the movie "Jurassic Park."
In the movie, a wealthy theme park owner attempts to clone dinosaurs and bring them back to life. Such is the case with high school football teams scoring over 100 points in a single game. While these creatures were plentiful when they roamed the gridiron in the early part of the century, they have scarcely been seen in the nearly 100 years since their extinction.
That's why Meadville's 100-point outing was such a shocker. According to P.S. Lutcher's website
Luckyshow.org, which catalogs a multitude of high school and college sports statistics including 100-point football games, there have been just 67 games in which a team has scored over 100 points since 1932.
In the 20 years prior to 1932, there were 525 instances in which a team scored over 100 points, including six where a team scored over 200 points.

The first 100-point game is believed to have occurred in 1894 in Minnesota. Just 18 years after the Jesse James Gang met its match in the town of Northfield,
Faribault (Minn.) lost to
Northfield (Minn.), 104-0.

The number of 100-point games built slowly from 1894 until its peak in 1921, when 50 teams scored over 100 points in a game. Prior to 1900, there were only four 100-point games while there were 29 occurrences in the 1910s. The highlight might have been a 105-0 win by
Hyde Park (Chicago) over Poly Prep (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the National High School Championship Game at Marshall Field in Chicago in 1902.

The greatest day for 100-point games was Oct. 26, 1912. Five games in four different states hit the century mark.
Oak Park-River Forest (Oak Park, Ill.) topped Evanston Academy in Illinois 101-0, Elkhart topped Interlake in Indiana 107-0, Tacoma blanked North Side (Bellingham) in Washington 100-0 and in Ohio,
Fostoria (Ohio) topped
Crestline (Ohio) 131-0 and
Newark (Ohio) topped
Zanesville (Ohio) 105-0.

Hazen (Kan.) has scored the most points in a single game, beating Sylvia (Kan.) 256-0 in 1927. However,
Staunton (Ill.) might have put the record way out of reach in 1923 when it beat
Gillespie (Ill.) 233-0. According to one account of the game, the 233 points was what Staunton had at halftime. No second half was supposedly played. Other accounts don't make it clear if the two teams played a full game. Staunton also defeated
Litchfield (Ill.) 113-0 that same year.

Cozad (Neb.) has the distinction of winning a game by 200 points and 100 points, as well as giving up over 100 points in the same season. Cozad defeated
Overton (Neb.) 201-7 and also topped Farnham 174-0 over a two-week span. However, it also lost to
North Platte (Neb.) by a score of 176-0.

Waco (Texas) and
Muskegon (Mich.) are tied with the most 100-point games in history with 11 each. Muskegon's total includes a 216-0 win over Hastings in 1912. All 11 of Muskegon's wins were shutouts ranging from 1902 to 1920. Waco also had 11 shutouts starting in 1915 and running to 1928. The highest win was a 131-0 victory over Bartlett in 1915.

Hugo (Colo.) reportedly scored over 100 points in a game four times in 1930 en route to a total of 748 points in 11 games. The 68-point average ranks fourth all-time according to the National Federation of State High School Associations Record Book. Three of those 100-point games came in consecutive outings, with a 104-0 win over
Burlington (Colo.), a 106-0 win over
Flagler (Colo.) and a 176-6 win over Vona.

Of the 624 games with over 100 points, only 65 of them were not shutouts. The most points ever scored by an opponent of a team that scored over 100 points is the 90 scored by DuBois on Friday. Prior to Friday,
Harrells Christian Academy (N.C.) scored 80 in a 104-80 loss to
Davidson Day (N.C.) in 2012. That was the last time a high school team scored over 100 points in a game.
