Video: Amazing soccer goalie saves
See the great work from TexasWith the boys soccer season in full swing we have decided to scroll through the MaxPreps stat database and display some of this spring's dominant individual performances. And South Sioux City forward Bryan Arellano appears to have a foot up on the competition.
The junior not only made our Top 10 once this week, but twice. Arellano, who has helped the Cardinals to a 10-3 record through last weekend's competition, buried the ball into the back of the net three times in a 9-0 win over Beatrice April 9, and assisted on a couple of more goals, for a fifth-best eight points.
Just four days earlier, Arellano was responsible for 8 points in an 11-1 win over Omaha Roncalli Catholic after booting four goals. He is joined in this week's Top 10 by Cardinal teammate Gonzalo Ledesma, who was responsible for the second-best offensive performance of the season, when he scored six goals and 12 points in an 8-0 triumph over Omaha North April 15.
Lincoln Lutheran midfielder Uriah Soenksen's 13 points in a 10-1 win over Seward in late March tops the field. The senior scored six goals and assisted on another in the nine-goal triumph. Of course this Top 10 is based solely on those performances that were added to the MaxPreps database.
A tiebreaker was used to split up those athletes that were credited for eight point performances. Arellano's first eight-point outburst, as well as the performances of Omaha Westside's Jack Finochiaro and Diego Gutierrez of Ralston were awarded the No. 5 slot based on the fact that their play was responsible for five goals. The rest of the 8-point field was awarded the No. 8 slot.
