Video: Xcellent 25 Girls Volleyball Rankings Presented By The Army National Guard
Host Myckena Guerrero breaks down this week's rankings. The top three teams have just one loss and long winning streaks, but unbeatens from Florida, Louisiana, Colorado, Montana and Pennsylvania continue to climb the ladder in the latest MaxPreps Xcellent Top 25 National High School Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Three of those unbeaten teams are in this week's Top 10 and the question remains: How high can they continue to climb with six Xcellent Top 25 Rankings remaining in the 2017 season?
Lewis-Palmer (Monument, Colo.) finished its regular season unbeaten and ran its two-year win streak to 52 by winning the Indian Invitational at Cheyenne Mountain with 3-1 wins over 19-4 Fossil Ridge and 21-2, and previously ranked, Eaton.
West Orange (Winter Garden, Fla.) has lost three of 74 sets this season and opened the Florida state Division 9A playoffs with a 3-0 win. It was West Orange's 12th-straight 3-0 victory.
Teurlings Catholic (Lafayette, La.) also concluded its regular season without a loss, sweeping the Spooktacular Invitational without losing a set. Coach Terry Hebert's Rebels open the playoffs Thursday in quest of their fifth-straight state championship.
Other unbeaten teams moving up in the rankings include Billings Senior (Billings, Mont.), Bishop Shanahan (Downington, Pa.) and Flint Hill (Oakton, Va.). All three finished the regular season without a loss and open the playoffs this week.
Walton (Marietta, Ga.), ranked No. 3, captured the program's 12th all-time state title and its seventh championship in the last eight years in sweeping Georgia's large school division over the weekend. Walton's
Gabby Gonzales produced 22 of the team's 49 kills in the 3-0 sweep over Etowah. Fellow junior setter
Caroline Cheney led Walton with 44 assists. Walton won 97 of 101 sets this season.
Walton is among the first highly ranked teams to finish its season and finds itself playing the hardest game of all — waiting as highly ranked teams from other states still have several weeks of playoffs. If those ahead of the Raiders lose, who would be No. 1?
For the first time in eight years, the Xcellent Rankings has a tie — at No. 25 — with Indiana large school finalists Crown Point and Avon. With just three losses each and lengthy win streaks, they face off Saturday in the state title game.
Also new to the Top 25 this week are Eagan (Minn.) and George Washington (Charleston, W. Va.). Each has lost just once and George Washington (53-1-3) hasn't lost in its last 45 matches.
Reagan (San Antonio) remained No. 1 for the fifth-straight week after ending the regular season with 21-straight wins and a 40-1 record.
