Video: Bol Bol makes debut at Mater DeiJunior 7-footer was productive coming off the bench for No. 5 Monarchs.Making his debut at
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) on Friday night,
Bol Bol put up 21 points and 10 rebounds as the nationally-ranked Monarchs rolled to an 85-64 win over Orange Lutheran (Orange).
The 7-foot-2 junior came off the bench and played just 16 minutes but made a major impact – as seen in the NFHS Network highlights above.
Bol is pegged as the No. 14 overall prospect in the Class of 2018 by 247Sports. He helped lead Bishop Miege (Shawnee Mission) to a state title in Kansas last season.
Mater Dei (21-1) is ranked No. 5 in this week's High School Top 25 with its lone loss coming to defending section, state and national champion Chino Hills.
The CIF Southern Section announced last Thursday that Bol would be eligible immediately citing a valid change of residence.
A little over 24 hours later against Orange Lutheran, Bol nearly notched a double-double by halftime with nine points and eight rebounds.
A couple of other juniors were also big for Mater Dei in the win. Junior point guard
Spencer Freedman finished with 14 points and nine assists while 6-10
Michael Wang added 11 points and eight boards.
The addition of Bol has a chance to shake things up in not only California's high-powered Southern Section, but nationally as well. Including Mater Dei, four of the top 15 teams in the High School Top 25 will enter into the postseason in that section, including No. 2 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth), No. 3 Chino Hills and No. 12 Bishop Montgomery (Torrance).
Bol's father, Manute, played 11 years in the NBA and at 7-foot-7 is one of the tallest basketball players ever.
