The big noise makers in Northern California were the Rocklin Thunder of Placer County, which pulled a 28-22 upset over previous No. 6-ranked Oak Ridge, and soared up to take that No. 6 spot with a date at No. 2 Folsom looming on Friday.
The Sierra Foothill League that includes Folsom, Rocklin, Oak Ridge, Del Oro, Granite Bay, Whitney and Grant is on par with the West Catholic Athletic League as the best in all of NorCal.

Update: The Spartans trailed early then rolled St. Mary's 55-17 to cap nonleague play and extend their unbeaten streak against NorCal teams north of Fresno to 303 (with two ties). De La Salle also this season has a 42-27 win over No. 2 Folsom. The Spartans are 388-5-2 against NorCal opponents since 1984. They have won 27 consecutive North Coast Section crowns and have been to 12 successive CIF State finals (those games started in 2006) and 10 in succession in the elite Open Division.

Update: The two-time defending CIF State Division I-AA champion Bulldogs, the top-ranked team by The Sacramento Bee, blasted defending CIF State 3AA champion on Menlo-Atherton 49-0 in nonleague play as
Jake Reithmeier passed for 317 yards. The loss this season was 42-27 to De La Salle. Folsom is 130-11 this decade with four CIF State banners, seven section titles and two 14-0 teams that lost to De La Salle in the since-dropped NorCal Open Division finals in 2012 and 2013.

League: West Catholic Athletic
Coach: Patrick Walsh
Update: Two time CIF Northern California winners in recent years, Serra rolled Riordan 41-0 in league play as
Daylin McLemore rushed for 200 yards and three scores and tossed a 75-yard touchdown. The Padres have big wins this season over St. Mary's, (56-28), Pittsburg (58-21) and Menlo-Atherton (38-13). For now, this is the best team in the Central Coast Section with rival Valley Christian looming.

Update: The defending CCS Open Division II champions beat Saint Francis 28-7 behind
Isaiah McElvane, who ran for 106 yards. A big early win was 23-13 over Wilcox. Rival Serra is the team to look for in the WCAL scramble.

League: Bay Valley
Coach: Ryan Partridge
Update: The defending CIF State 1-A champion Lions beat Freedom 44-14 in the annual Bell Game as
Jay Butterfield tossed three touchdown passes and
Darrion Bartley ran for two scores. Earlier wins were over Clayton Valley Charter, Vacaville and Oakdale.

Update: The Thunder beat previous No. 6 Oak Ridge 28-22 in SFL play a week after Oak Ridge pushed No. 2 Folsom to the wire in a 36-33 loss. Offense, defense and special teams have the Thunder booming after a 2-8 season in 2018.
Cole Becker had three field goals for Rocklin and
Richie Watts again played well at quarterback against Oak Ridge.

Update: The Trojans lost to Rocklin 28-22 a week after losing to rival Folsom 36-33 in a thrilling SFL opener. This is a young team starting league play with the top two teams.

Update: The Tigers rolled Burbank 70-0 in nonleague play. They also have wins at Elk Grove and at Del Oro. Coach Terry Stark won his 225th career game.

League: East Bay Athletic

Update: The Ugly Eagles led 28-0 at the half and rolled Berkeley 55-13 behind the rushing attack of

Omari Taylor. The loss was 28-27 in overtime to Liberty. CVC has had seasons of 12-2, 11-2, 15-1, 13-2 and two 9-2 seasons this decade.

Update: The Mustangs beat Livermore 26-3 as
Jack Stewardson tossed three touchdown passes and
Gavin Cribb rushed for 189 yards. The loss was to Liberty 24-21, undone by a tying field-goal attempt that hit the upright. An early big win was over Granite Bay.

Update: The Pirates beat Deer Valley 54-18 in a league opener as
Jerry Johnson tossed three touchdown passes and
Avant Muldrow ran for 127 yards. An earlier big win was over Wilcox 35-31. The loss was to Serra. Pittsburg is the last NorCal program to defeat De La Salle, doing so in the 1991 North Coast Section finals.

Update: The Cardinals beat Balboa 35-6 with

Clay Woo each scoring a rushing touchdown. The loss was 17-13 to Liberty. The lone loss a year ago was to Liberty. This program in the 1970s had the state record for consecutive wins at 47.

Update: The defending CIF State 3-A champion Chargers beat Palo Alto 26-15, bouncing back nicely after a crushing 35-31 loss to Pittsburg.

Isaiah Flores each ran for 164 yards and a touchdown. The other loss was to Valley Christian 23-13.

Update: The Mustangs beat Paraclete 21-13 as
Caleb Ramseur rushed for 197 yards and a score and
Prophet Brown went for a touchdown. The loss was a 36-35 setback to upstart Cosumnes Oaks. The Mustangs lost to Folsom in the section Division I finals in 2018.

Update: The Warriors of the East Bay were supposed to play San Leandro but local police and school administrators decided this wasn't wise due to threats from outside influences.
An earlier win was 19-7 over Marin Catholic. McClymonds has won two CIF State titles since 2016 with a 12-0 team in 2010, a 12-1 team in 2015 and going 12-2 a year ago.

Update: The Wildcats beat Pitman 42-0 as
Matteo Perez set the tone with an opening kickoff for a touchdown. The loss was 19-7 to McClymonds. Marin Catholic teams have had teams go 12-1, 14-1, 14-2, 13-1, 12-2 and 12-1 this decade.
