MaxPreps 2018 High School All-American Girls Volleyball Team

Three schools have teammates honored. Senior Camille Nazor and junior Rylee Rader represent Assumption (Louisville, Ky.), the 2018 MaxPreps National Champion; senior Natalie Berty and junior Mia Tuaniga play together for California state champion Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and junior Nalani Iosia and sophomore Kami Miner are teammates at Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.).

Texas leads the list with six All-Americans, followed by California with five selections, and Kentucky and Michigan with four each. Indiana has three, and Arizona and Georgia have two each.

Of the 37 MaxPreps All-Americans, 30 are seniors, six are juniors and one sophomore.


MH — Gabby Gonzales, Walton (Marietta, Ga.), 6-4, Sr.
The MaxPreps  2017 National Junior Player of the Year led Walton to a 42-3 record, another state large school title and the Phoenix Nike Tournament of Champions title. She averaged 4.9 kills per set, served 91 percent for 181 points, averaged 2.2 digs and 4.7 serves per set. She will attend Ohio State.

MB — Ellie Holzman, Mt. Carmel (New Orleans), 6-2, Sr.
Though her numbers were down slightly from a monster junior year, she averaged five kills, one block and 2.7 digs per set as the Cubs won 44 of 46 matches and state D1 championship. For her career, Holzman had more than 2,400 kills, 750 blocks and 1,379 digs. With future Illinois player on the court, Mt. Carmel average 42 wins per season.

MB — Molly Phillips, Mansfield (Texas), 6-4, Sr.
The USA Girls National Team member led Mansfield to a 35-14 season when she averaged 5.6 kills, 3.5 digs and 4.0 serve receptions per set. The Texas commit also served an ace on 12.1 percent of her serves.

MH — Rylee Rader, Assumption (Louisville, Ky.), 6-1, Jr.
Kentucky's Miss Volleyball helped the Rockets to the MaxPreps National Championship and a 43-0 record. The Ohio State commit averaged 3.8 kills (hitting .553) also blocked 56 shots. She is a finalist for the MaxPreps National Junior Player of the Year.

MB — Kara McGhee, Clark (San Antonio), 6-4, Sr.
Clark won 44 of 47 matches and there was no bigger reason than McGhee, who will play collegiately at Baylor. Not only did she change the opponent's offensive and defensive strategies, she also averaged 4.2 kills (59.4 kill percent) and blocked 231 shots (1.6 per set).

OH — Natalie Berty, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 6-3, Sr.
The future Stanford Cardinal averaged 43.8 kill percentage and 4.3 per set in leading Mater Dei to a 43-win season and the California large school championship. The Southern Section large school Player of the Year also served better than 91 percent, totaling 227 points. Add to that, she blocked 57 shots and averaged 2.6 digs and 4.5 serve receptions per set.

OH — Jessica Nunge, Castle (Newburgh, Ind.), 6-2, Sr.
The Knights were 35-2 as the future Florida State Seminole averaged 6.1 kills, 3.5 serve receptions and 3.0 digs per set. She also blocked 89 shots and served at a 94.7 percent pace for 227 points.

OH — Madeline Chinn, Notre Dame Prep (Pontiac, Mich.), 6-3, Sr.
Chinn led the Fighting Irish to a 64-6 season, a state finals match and was named Michigan's Miss Volleyball. Despite starting the season with an injury, the Purdue commit finished with 659 kills (4.7 per set) and averaged .453 hitting percentage. She also averaged a block, 3.7 digs and 4.2 serve receptions per set.

OH — Madi Kubik, Valley (West Des Moines, Iowa), 6-1, Sr.
Kubik, who has signed with Nebraska, led Valley to a 41-4 record this year by averaging 5.16 kills per set with a .382 hitting percentage. Last summer she played on the U.S. Junior National team.

OH — Paige Flickinger, Byron Nelson (Trophy Club, Texas), 6-0, Jr.
The Texas state Player of the Year led Byron Nelson to high national ranking nearly all season and a final 42-2 record. Flickinger registered career highs 540 kills and 60 blocks this season while adding 600 digs. She recorded 24 double-doubles and had six games with at least 20 kills and 20 digs. She is a finalist for MaxPreps' National Junior Player of the Year.

OH — Kamaile Hiapo, Skyline (Mesa, Ariz.), 5-10, Sr.
The University of Arizona signee finished among national leaders in kills (7.2 per set average and 847 total) and serve receptions with 1031 (8.7 average). She also led Skyline in digs with 511 (4.3).
S — Camille Nazor, Assumption (Louisville, KY), 6-1, Sr.
The Duke commit was the spark plug to Assumption's 43-0 season and 21st state championship. She averaged 11.2 assists and 2.1 digs per set, blocked 44 shots and served for 175 aces. In Nazor's three seasons as the Rockets' setter, she dished out 2,705 assists and they won 115 of 124 matches.

S — Mia Tuaniga, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA), 5-9, Jr.
The Long Beach State commit  is a finalist for the MaxPreps National Junior Player of the Year. A three-year starter, she averaged 5.7 assists, 2.3 digs and 2.3 kills per set. She also served 57 aces and blocked 48 shots as Mater Dei won the CIF large school championship and 43-of-45 matches.

S — Izzy Ashburn, Champlin Park (Champlin, Minn.), 5-11, Sr.
The state's Miss Volleyball dished out 1,148 assists (12.2) as Champlin reached the state title match. Signed with Wisconsin, she also averaged 95.5 serving (44 aces) and averaged 2.2 digs per set.

S — Savannah Vach, Oviedo (Fla.), 5-10, Sr.
The Class 9A Player of the Year. She finished the season with 417 kills (4.4 per set), 347 digs (3.7) and 515 assists (5.5) in helping the Lions to the state title. The Miami commit served 98.9 percent and blocked 55 shots.

L — Georgia Murphy, The Woodlands (Texas), 5-6, Sr.
Murphy, who signed with Oregon, served for 329 points was a defensive specialist with 6.0 digs and 3.6 serve receptions per set. She also set 97 assists. The Woodlands won 46 matches.

L — Nalani Iosia, Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.), 5-9, Jr.
In 110 sets, the Texas commit had 473 digs, 163 service aces and 201 assists. In addition to being named first team All-Southern Section, she was all-tournament at Durango, Lakewood and the Redondo Power Classic.

A-A — Celia Cullen, Brighton (Mich.), 6-1, Jr.
The team leader in all categories — 603 assists, 265 digs (2.2), 384 kills (3.1 hitting .490), 194 kills (1.6 per set), 100 blocks — as the Bulldogs won 35 matches. Cullen has a verbal to Michigan State and is a member of USA Girls Team. She is a finalist for MaxPreps National Junior Player of the Year.

A-A — Kenzie Knuckles, Yorktown (Ind.), 5-8, Sr.
She led Yorktown to a 34-0 record and a No. 2 national ranking when she averaged four kills and digs per set. In four seasons, the future Nebraska Cornhusker's numbers were mountainous as she recorded 1,797 kills, served 165 aces at better than 93 percent, had 129 blocks and totaled 1,654 digs and Yorktown won 145 matches and lost just six. SECOND TEAMMB — Caitie Baird, Perry Meridian (Indianapolis), 6-3 Sr.
Heading to Stanford, she led Meridian to 19 wins averaging 4.9 kills, 3.4 serve receptions, 3.7 digs per set. A perennial All-Stater, Baird was a member of the U.S. National Girls Team.

MB — McKenna Vicini, Lexington Catholic (Lexington, Ky.), 6-2, Sr.
Another All-American heading to Stanford, Vicini led Catholic to a 22-win season by averaging 4.9 kills (hitting .400), 1.4 blocks and 3.4 digs per set. She also served for 69 aces in being named first team all-state.

MB — Shea Rubright, West Valley (Yakima, Wash.), 6-5, Sr.
The Minnesota commit led her team to the Washington large school title when she averaged better than four kills and one block per set.

OH — Megan Taylor, Paintsville (Ky.), 6-0, Sr.
A three-time all-state selection, the Marshall signee was the nation's top hitter averaging 8.6 kills (hitting .557 percentage with a 66.4 kill percentage. Taylor accounted for 75 percent of the Tigers points and recorded 10 or more kills in a set on eight occasions. She also blocked 180 shots (1.7 per set average), served 110 aces and averaged 2.8 digs and serve receptions per set for the 35-4 Tigers.

OH — Riley James, Barnstable (Hyannis, Mass.), 5-10, Sr.
The Bryant commit played in 98 winning matches and lost four in four seasons. The only loss last season came in the state 3A finals. James once again put up monster numbers as she averaged 6.kills, 3.5 serve receptions and 2.6 digs per set.

OH — Kayleigh Hames, Webb (Knoxville, Tenn.), 6-1, Sr.
The Pepperdine commit led Webb to its sixth-straight state title as a senior by averaging 6.3 kills, 2.6 digs and 4.4 serve receptions.

OH — Kendall Kipp, Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, Calif.), 6-4, Sr.
The six-rotation player averaged 5.1 kills and 1.8 digs in being named first team all-Southern Section. Kipp has signed with Stanford.

OH — Allyson Severance, North Branch (Mich.), 6-1, Sr.
The future Miami-Ohio University player totaled some big numbers: 853 kills (5.8) and 107 aces. She also averaged 2.6 digs and 4.9 serve receptions. She was a finalist for state Player of the Year as the Broncos won 58 matches.

OH — Campbell Bowden, Coronado (El Paso, Texas), 6-0,Sr.
The Baylor signee led Coronado to a 37-6 season when she averaged 7.3 Kills (hitting .512), 4.6 digs and 4.6 serve receptions per set. She also served for 358 points on 98.4 serving.

OH — Erin Shomaker, Granville (Ohio), 6-2, Sr.
The national hitting leader (.651 and 71.7 kills percentage) also averaged 7.6 kills per set and leads team in all categories – 77 aces, 204 service points, 61 blocks, 3.0 digs per set and 3.5 serve receptions. Granville won 21 of 25 matches. She has committed to Florida Gulf Coast.
S — McKenzie Nichols, Carroll (Southlake, Texas), 5-10, Sr.
The Dragons won 120 matches the last three seasons and wouldn't have done so without Nichols. As a senior, she recorded 1,365 assists (10.2) and 370 digs (2.8). She also served for 270 points and blocked 44 shots. She has signed with Texas Christian.

S — Emily Fitzner, Torrey Pines (San Diego), 6-1, Sr.
Headed to the University of Indiana, Fitzner is a two-time San Diego Section all-star player. She led the Falcons to a 33-4 season by averaging 2.4 kills, 4.1 digs and 5.8 assists. She also served for 290 points and recorded 43 blocks.

L — Anna MacDonald, Blessed Trinity (Roswell, Ga.), 5-7, Sr.
MacDonald recorded nearly 3,300 digs in her four seasons at Blessed Trinity. As a senior, she had 943 (7.9 per set average) and the Titans won 43 matches. She served for a 94.7 percentage (included were 75 aces) and 290 points. The future Wisconsin Badger also returned more than 3,000 serves in her four seasons, including 531 (4.5) as a senior.

L — Nicole Hoff, Millennium (Goodyear, Ariz.), 5-9, Sr.
Hoff led Millennium to the state 5A title and one loss season (45-1) and high national ranking. She served for 279 points on a 95.4 serve percentage and averaged 7.1 digs per set (835). She also dished out 186 assists and averaged 4.4 on serve receptions. She has signed with Long Beach State.

A-A — Melani Shaffmaster, New Castle (Ind.), 6-3, Jr.
The numbers just keep getting better for Shaffmaster, who was MaxPreps National Sophomore Player of the Year in 2017. The big number is two — back to back state 3A titles as Shaffmaster averaged 2.2 kills, 2.0 digs and 9.2 assists. Shaffmaster, who has committed to Minnesota, averaged 11 assists per set in the postseason.

A-A — Jess Mruzik, Mercy (Farmington Hills, Mich.), 6-2, Jr.
Mruzik averaged 4.7 kills, 1.8 digs and served for 65 aces as Mercy went 53-3 on the season and had a long payoff run. A member of the U.S. Girls National Team, she has committed to Michigan.

A-A — Tasia Farmer, Lone Peak (Highland, Utah), 6-0, Sr.
Utah's Miss Volleyball finished her senior season with 510 kills, earning a .362 hitting percentage in 94 sets and led the Knights to their third-straight 6A title. Defensively, she added 307 digs and 42 blocks. She will play at UC-Santa Barbara.

AA — Kami Miner, Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, CA), 5-11, So.
Despite missing time playing for the USA national girls team, Miner had 330 kills, 108 blocks, 291 digs and 554 assists in 104 sets. She was all-tournament at Durango, Lakewood, Redondo Power Classic and the Bay League Most Valuable Player. The Seahawks were 35-4 on the season and lost only to nationally ranked teams. Miner is a finalist for the MaxPreps National Sophomore Player of the Year.
