Arch Manning saw his high school football career come to an end Friday as
Newman (New Orleans) fell 49-13 to University Lab in the Louisiana Division III quarterfinals.
The No. 1 rated player in high school football heads to Austin soon to enroll at the University of Texas. But not before the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning became the Greenies' all-time leader in passing yardage and touchdowns, surpassing marks by his Super Bowl winning uncles.
In September, he threw for more than 350 yards against Pearl River, passing both Peyton and then Eli for total passing yards. A week prior Arch passed his uncles as the school's touchdown leader.
Manning entered Friday's game with 8,517 yards passing.
He announced in October, according to the Athletic, that he was going to join the Longhorns' program in January 2023 and participate in spring drills ahead of the 2023 football season.
Before he left New Orleans and Newman, however, Manning and the Greenies were looking for a title that had eluded them since he became the starting quarterback in his freshman campaign.
Manning scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter, but that cut University Lab's to 28-6, but that's as close as the Greenies would get as the Cubs returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the second half and led 49-6 halfway through the final quarter.
Manning is the first No. 1 overall recruit to sign with the Longhorns since Vince Young in 2002.
