Video: Xcellent 25 Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard - Nov. 7Twenty-four of the top 25 teams were in action this past weekend and they all cruised to victories. Eleven of the 25 were in win-or-go-home situations and all 11 advanced to the next round of the playoffs.
Next week all but one will be in a playoff game and some of their brackets are absolutely loaded.
See football playoff brackets from across the nationSouthern California's CIF Southern Section Division-1 bracket will have No. 3 Mater Dei, No. 12 St. John Bosco, No. 14 Corona Centennial, No. 18 Mission Viejo and a very good 10-0 Rancho Cucamonga team in the field.
Georgia's 7A class is stacked too. No. 6 Grayson, No. 10 Roswell and bubble team Mill Creek will all be in the field along with the defending back-to-back state champ Colquitt County, a team that has won six in a row since starting the season 0-4. Class of 2017 Florida State commit
Bailey Hockman and McEachern will also be in the field and its only blemish this season was a 16-13 loss to Grayson back in early September.

1. (1 last week) Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), 10-0Bishop Gorman enters the playoffs riding a 50-game winning streak, and in intrastate competition it is 82 wins in a row. This season against six Nevada opponents the Gaels have outscored the opposition 352-20. The Gaels' 4-star quarterback
Tate Martell enters the playoffs 40-0 as the starting quarterback for Bishop Gorman and since he came off the bench as a sophomore, all he has done is throw for nearly 7,000 yards and 101 touchdowns. The 2017 Ohio State commit has also rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and 28 scores during his high school career. Bishop Gorman's streak for eight state titles starts Thursday against Palo Verde.
Next game: Thursday vs. Palo Verde (Las Vegas) in the first round of the 4A state playoffs
2. (2) IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), 9-0IMG Academy is the only team not in the playoffs and that is because the Ascenders are not eligible for postseason play in the state of Florida. But that didn't stop them from getting another impressive win this past weekend. They recorded their fourth shutout of the season and second in a row with a 43-0 win against Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.). Four-star quarterback
Kellen Mond continues to have a big-time senior season, as he accounted for four touchdowns against the Lions, two passing and two rushing. He now has 18 touchdown passes, tying Shea Patterson's single-season record he set last year and his two rushing touchdowns gave him 15 for the season, putting him one behind Bo Scarbrough, who rushed for 16 touchdowns in IMG Academy's inaugural season back in 2013.
Next game: Saturday vs. St. Frances Academy (Baltimore)
3. (3) Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 10-0Mater Dei finished the regular season 10-0 for the first time since 1997 after beating JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano), 59-7. It was also the first time since 1999 the Monarchs clinched their first outright Trinity League title. The No. 1 quarterback in the Class of 2019,
JT Daniels, continued his impressive sophomore season by throwing for 458 yards and six touchdowns against JSerra Catholic, and it was the seventh time this season Daniels had at least six touchdowns in a game. This year he has 3,561 yards passing and 53 touchdowns. The Monarchs will open as the No. 1 overall seed in the CIF SS Division-1 playoffs and they will try and do something they have never done since the CIF started the state bowl games back in 2006 - win a state title.
Next game: Friday vs. Tesoro (Rancho Santa Margarita) in the first round of the CIF Southern Section D1 playoffs
4. (4) DeSoto (Texas), 10-0DeSoto finished the regular season a perfect 10-0 after holding off 5-star athlete
Jeffrey Okudah and South Grand Prairie with a 37-31 victory. Four-star quarterback
Shawn Robinson finished the night with 300 total yards and two scores. Robinson has put his name in the mix for National Player of the Year after finishing the regular season with over 2,500 total yards and 28 touchdowns, and if he can lead DeSoto to its first state championship in school history, it will help his chances even more. After Duncanville beat Grand Prairie this past weekend, it ensured that DeSoto will be in the 6A Division II bracket and that eliminates the chance that the Eagles face off against Allen, a team that knocked them out of the playoffs the last four years.
Next game: Friday vs. Killeen (Texas) in the first round of the 6A-D2 state playoffs
5. (5) DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), 10-0DeMatha won its 15th game in a row dating back to last year after finishing the regular season 10-0 by beating Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney), 21-7. It was the first time since 2009 the Stags finished the regular season undefeated. Class of 2017 Air Force commit
Beau English scored all three touchdowns on the ground and the defense was lights-out once again for coach Elijah Brooks. The road to four Washington Catholic Athletic Conference football championships in a row starts against the same team the Stags just played this past weekend, Good Counsel. This field is loaded like always, as St. John's (Washington, D.C.) and Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) are on the other side of the bracket. DeMatha beat all three of those teams during the regular season.
Next game: Friday vs. Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney) in the WCAC semifinals
6. (6) Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), 9-1Grayson has won nine in a row since its season-opening loss to No. 2 IMG Academy and the last eight have all been by double digits. The Rams are playing as well as anyone in the country right now and this team is loaded with talent. Four-star South Carolina commit
Jamyest Williams had another big game, as he returned an interception for a touchdown and also had a kickoff return for a score in a 45-3 win over South Gwinnett (Snellville). The Rams open up as the No. 1 overall seed in the 7A state playoffs and they could potentially have to get by Colquitt County, Mill Creek or McEachern, and Roswell if they want to win their first state title since 2011.
Next game: Friday vs. Mountain View (Lawrenceville) in the first round of the 7A state playoffs
7. (7) Allen (Texas), 10-0For the fourth-straight year, the Eagles enter the playoffs undefeated. They shut out Wylie 49-0 behind senior quarterback
Mitchell Jonke, who finished the night with four touchdowns, and the defense earned its first shutout of the season. There might not be anything harder to do in all of high school sports than win a state title in Texas' largest classification, and if Allen wins it all this year, it will be its fifth state title since 2008.
Next game: Friday vs. Trinity (Euless) in the first round of the 6A-D1 state playoffs
8. (8) Mountain Pointe (Phoenix), 11-0Mountain Pointe won every game in the regular season by double digits and things haven't changed in the playoffs, as the Pride beat Cesar Chavez (Laveen), 52-14.
Rashie Hodge Jr led the way on offense, finishing with over 100 total yards and three scores, and the defense continues to show why it is one of the best in the country. The Pride are going to be tough to beat in the 6A state playoffs even without starting quarterback
Noah Grover and starting running back
Gary Bragg, who both suffered season-ending injuries earlier this season. They are three wins away from winning their second state title in school history and first since 2013. Up next for the Pride is Desert Ridge, a team they have already defeated by 14 points, the lowest margin of victory for them this season.
Next game: Thursday vs. Desert Ridge (Mesa) in the second round of the 4A state playoffs
9. (10) St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 7-2The only movement in the rankings this week involved St. Thomas Aquinas, which switched spots with Roswell after beating a very good Flanagan (Pembroke Pines) team 45-19 on the road. The Raiders enter the 7A state playoffs riding a four-game winning streak and they have dominated their last four opponents by outscoring them 178-34. Aquinas enters the postseason as the back-to-back 7A state champ and is trying to bring home its 10th state title in school history.
Next game: Friday vs. Palm Beach Lakes (West Palm Beach) in the first round of the 7A state playoffs
10. (9) Roswell (Ga.), 10-0Roswell finished the regular season a perfect 10-0 but enters the playoffs with a couple flat performances in the last few weeks. Three weeks ago the Hornets needed a late touchdown to beat 5-5 Etowah (Woodstock) and this past week they escaped with a 20-14 victory against a 6-4 Cherokee (Canton) squad. The Hornets still enter the 7A state playoffs as one of the most dangerous in the field and the one thing that has been consistent all season is their defense. Roswell hasn't won a state title since 2006.
Next game: Friday vs. Pebblebrook (Mableton) in the first round of the 7A state playoffs
11. (11) American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), 9-0Idle.
Next game: Friday vs. Westwood (Fort Pierce) in the first round of the 5A state playoffs
12. (12) St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), 8-2St. John Bosco finished the regular season with its only two losses coming to No. 1 Bishop Gorman and No. 3 Mater Dei. The Braves might get a chance at avenging their loss to Mater Dei but if they do it wouldn't happen until the CIF Southern Section Division-1 title game, as they are on opposite sides of the bracket. A potential semifinal matchup against No. 14 Corona Centennial could happen too, and it seems like Bosco and Centennial always meet up in the playoffs. They have squared off the last three years in the Pac 5 championship game, and Centennial has won two of three.
Next game: Friday vs. Upland (Calif.) in the first round of the CIF Southern Section D1 playoffs
13. (13) Colerain (Cincinnati), 11-0Colerain's first-round dominance continued, as the Cardinals are now 19-0 all-time in the opening round of the playoffs. They cruised to a 35-14 win over Springboro to start the path to a potential second state championship in school history and first since 2004. But they have to get through another Cincinnati power, St. Xavier, to get one step closer next week.
Next game: Friday vs. St. Xavier (Cincinnati) in the second round of the D-1 state playoffs
14. (14) Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 9-1Corona Centennial's only blemish on the season was a one-point loss to No. 2 IMG Academy and the Huskies enter the playoffs winners of eight in a row, and all eight have come by double digits. The Huskies are one of the highest-scoring teams in the state, as they finished the regular season averaging 53.1 points per game. Centennial has won the last two Pac 5 championships and if they do it for a third-straight year, they will potentially have to go through Servite, Long Beach Poly, St. John Bosco and Mater Dei. Making it through that gauntlet would give the Huskies a good argument to move into the top five.
Next game: Friday vs. JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) in the first round of the Southern Section D1 playoffs
15. (15) Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.), 11-0Saguaro's impressive 2016 continued in the first round of the 4A state playoffs with a 56-7 win over Amphitheater (Tucson). The Sabercats have won every game by double digits this year and have outscored the opposition 517-116. Senior running back
Stone Matthews has been one of the best running backs in the country this year, as he's eclipsed the century mark in nine of 11 games, and has 1,724 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground. The team is gunning for its fourth-straight state crown.
Next game: Thursday vs. Peoria in the second round of the 4A state playoffs
16. (16) Cass Tech (Detroit), 11-0Cass Tech advanced to the third round of the D-1 state playoffs after a 24-7 win against Dearborn. Cass Tech has proven to be the best team in the state, as the Technicians have won every game by double digits this year and they are trying to win the third state title in school history and first since 2012, when they went back-to-back. They have a big-time matchup this Friday with a spot in the D-1 state semifinals on the line against an 11-0 Saline team.
Next game: Friday vs. Saline in the third round of the D-1 state playoffs
17. (17) McGill-Toolen (Mobile, Ala.), 11-0McGill-Toolen entered halftime trailing 14-11 to Jefferson Davis (Montgomery) but luckily for the Yellowjackets, games are four quarters. They outscored the Volunteers 35-0 in the final 24 minutes and breezed into the quarterfinals of the 7A state playoffs as winners of 20 in a row.
Next game: Friday vs. Enterprise in the second round of the 7A state playoffs
18. (18) Mission Viejo (Calif.), 10-0Mission Viejo gets a chance to prove it is one of the best in the state because the Diablos get to play in arguably the toughest playoff bracket in the country - the CIF Southern Section Pac Division-1 bracket. The Diablos have won 38 consecutive games dating back to 2014. A 41-3 win over San Clemente clinched Mission Viejo's eighth-consecutive South Coast League championship. Senior quarterback
Matthew Mcdonald, 4-star wide receiver
Austin Osborne and 4-star athlete
Olaijah Griffin help form one of the best trios in the state and they are going to need to play great if they want to keep their winning streak alive through the gauntlet of the CIF Southern Section Division-1 bracket.
Next game: Friday vs. Servite (Anaheim) in the first round of the CIF Southern Section D1 playoffs
19. (19) Bingham (South Jordan, Utah), 12-0Bingham has played in 12 games this season and none of them have been close. The Miners have won every game by at least 21 points and they have won by a combined 63 points through the first two rounds of the 5A state playoffs, including a 37-14 triumph over Lehi on Friday. Bingham is two wins away from winning its third state title since 2013.
Next game: Thursday vs. Fremont (Plain City) in the third round of the 5A state playoffs
20. (20) St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia), 9-0The top team from Pennsylvania continues to roll in 2016, as St. Joseph's Prep cruised to a 45-7 win over Roman Catholic (Philadelphia) to advance to the 6A Catholic League title game. Four-star Georgia commit
D'Andre Swift had another big game, as he had a 64-yard touchdown run and 36-yard touchdown reception. Junior quarterback
Marquez Mccray added three touchdowns and the defense was lights-out once again for Gabe Infante. The last time St. Joseph's Prep played La Salle it won 63-35 and Swift had seven touchdowns and 269 yards rushing on only 18 carries.
Next game: Friday vs. La Salle College (Philadelphia) in the 6A Catholic League title game
21. (21) Trinity (Louisville, Ky.), 11-0Trinity ran through the regular season a perfect 10-0 and things sure haven't changed in the playoffs. The Shamrocks posted a 69-0 shutout victory in the first round of the 6A state playoffs and you have to go all the way back to September to find the last time the Shamrocks gave up any points. They have posted four consecutive shutouts and have recorded shutouts in five of their last six games. Trinity is seeking its 24th state title.
Next game: Friday vs. Eastern (Louisville) in the second round of the 6A state playoffs
22. (22) Warren Central (Indianapolis), 10-1Warren Central won its ninth-consecutive game and advanced to the third round of the 6A state playoffs with a dominant 50-20 win against Southport (Indianapolis). The Warriors were up 43-0 at halftime and 4-star sophomore wide receiver
David Bell finished the night with three touchdown receptions. Getting to the 6A semifinals won't be easy because the Warriors are playing a very good 10-1 Center Grove team, the defending 6A state champ. The one loss though for Center Grove this season came to Warren Central back in the season opener.
Next game: Friday vs. Center Grove (Greenwood) in the third round of the 6A state playoffs
23. (23) Jenks (Okla.), 10-0Jenks cruised to a perfect regular season and won its 15th game in a row with a 52-35 win over Edmond Santa Fe (Edmond, Okla.) to claim the District 6AI-1 title. Sophomore quarterback
Ian Corwin continues to impress, as he finished the game with 292 yards passing and had three total touchdowns, one passing and two rushing. It was also the sixth-consecutive game in which the Trojans eclipsed the 50-point mark and they enter the 6A state playoffs riding a ton of momentum.
Next game: Friday vs. Southmoore (Moore) in the first round of the 6A state playoffs
24. (24) East (Salt Lake City), 11-0Getting consecutive win 21 wasn't easy for the Salt Lake City power, as East had to overcome six first-half turnovers against Timpview (Provo) and a one-point halftime deficit. It was only the second time all season the Leopards trailed at the halfway point, but they outscored Timpview 27-13 in the final 24 minutes to walk away with a 47-34 victory. Senior running back
Jaylen Warren needed 136 yards rushing to break the single-season rushing state record, and he finished with 249. It was the ninth-consecutive game where Warren rushed for at least 200 yards and it was the 10th time overall this season. If he eclipses the century mark next week it will tie a state record at 13 games with at least 100 yards rushing. East is two wins away from claiming its second-consecutive 4A state title.
Next game: Friday vs. Maple Mountain (Spanish Fork) in the third round of the 4A state playoffs
25. (25) Wayne (Huber Heights, Ohio), 10-0-1Wayne continued its strong play into the state playoffs with a 52-7 opening-round win over Lancaster. The Warriors scored on all six of their first-half possessions, as sophomore quarterback
Rashad Mckee was unstoppable. Before the second half even started McKee had already completed 12 of 14 passes for 235 yards and had another 136 yards on the ground to go with four total touchdowns. A potential semifinal matchup against No. 13 Colerain awaits in the Division 1 bracket if Wayne can both beat its next two opponents.
Next game: Friday vs. Dublin Coffman (Dublin) in the second round of the Division 1 state playoffs
Bubble TeamsMill Creek (Hoschton, Ga.), 10-0Mill Creek capped off its perfect regular season emphatically with a 56-0 shutout win over Duluth. Mill Creek will be competing in a stacked 7A state playoff bracket and has been trying to knock down the Top 25 door for quite some time. But teams in the Xcellent 25 refuse to lose as of late, so the only way in may be to win the 7A title.
Next game: Friday vs. Newton (Covington) in the first round of the 7A state playoffs
Lake Travis (Austin, Texas), 9-1Lake Travis has been playing as well as anyone since its season-opening loss to Judson. The Cavaliers won their ninth-consecutive game with a 55-0 victory over Vandegrift (Austin) and they enter the 6A-D1 state playoffs with a ton of momentum, having shut out three of their last four opponents. Over the last eight weeks they have outscored the opposition 438-45. Lake Travis is trying to win its first football state championship since 2011, when it became the first Texas football program to win five consecutive state titles.
Next game: Friday vs. Madison (San Antonio) in the first round of the 6A-D1 state playoffs
South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.), 9-1South Pointe has played amazing football in 2016 and if it wasn't for a 28-23 loss to Baltimore power St. Frances Academy back in early September, the team would hovering around the Top 10. The Stallions knocked off Northwestern (Rock Hill) and Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.) when they were both ranked in the Xcellent 25 and they enter the 4A state playoffs as winners of six in a row. One of the major factors in the Stallions' success this year is because of their 4-star junior athlete
Derion Kendrick. He capped off the regular season with a six-touchdown performance and accounted for nearly 300 total yards in a 57-7 win against Westwood (Blythewood).
Next game: Nov. 18 vs. Greenville (S.C.) in the first round of the 4A state playoffs
The Woodlands (Texas), 10-0The Woodlands finished the regular season a perfect 10-0 and enters the 6A-D1 state playoffs without allowing more than 10 points to any opponent in the last five games. The Woodlands has its hands full as it enters arguably the toughest playoff bracket in the country.
Next game: Friday vs. Horn (Mesquite) in the first round of the 6A-D1 state playoffs
Kahuku (Hawaii), 10-1Idle.
Next game: Friday vs. Kapolei (Hawaii) in the second round of the Open Division state playoffs
